Animals (HM 3)
There are many different animals in HM3. It's always great to have a selection!
There are a few different cats you can choose from. It doesn't matter which colour you choose - they all bring you seeds. You can choose this animal at the beginning.
Black cat: Brings you various seeds.
Brown cat: In the selection screen this cat looks spotted, but it is really only brown. Brings you various seeds.
Pink cat: In the selection screen this cat looks white, but it's actually pink! Brings you various seeds.
You only get once choice of bird. It brings you mainly flower and herb seeds. You can choose this animal at the beginning.
You need at least 4 patches of grass in order to buy a chicken. You can choose either a male or female. Choosing a female would be wise because they're the ones who lay eggs.
If you'd like more chickens, all you have to do is put an egg into the incubator. It will take around 7 days to hatch. The chick will stay young for around 14 days. It will then turn into an adult and begin to lay eggs.
If a chicken really likes you it will lay golden eggs. These sell for way more than the normal eggs, so take great care of your chickens!
Golden Egg: 200G
In order to buy a cow you must have 6 fields of grass planted in your pasture. You can either choose a male or female. My advise is to choose the female - she's the one who produces milk. You can always return later and buy a male for breeding.
Cows produce better quality milk the more they like you. You can even make cheese and butter once you buy the cheese and butter milkers. They cost 30000G. It doesn't matter how large the cow's milk is. The milk and butter will always be the same size once they come out.
You can also breed your cow. You need a male cow and a female cow that are both adults. When you talk to the sheep select the option to have a baby. A calf takes 14 days to reach young adult, and another 22 to become full grown.
Small Milk: 150G
Medium Milk: 200G
Large Milk: 250G
There are three different dogs you can choose from. They all keep wild creatures away. That's a good thing. If you don't have dogs, your animals will be eaten when you don't bring them inside. You can choose this animal at the beginning.
Big dog: This is a very large dog.
Medium dog: This is the standard Harvest Moon dog.
Small dog: So tiny and cute!
To buy a horse you must have at least 6 fields of grass planted in your pasture. Horses don't bring in any money, but you can enter them in horse races. Be warned though. If you enter a horse into a race you'll never get it back. You might see its name in a book though!
You can also breed your horses. You need a male horse and a female horse that are both adults. When you talk to the horse select the option to have a baby. Once the foal (or filly) is born it will take 25 days to become an adult.
Once the horse is an adult you can buy a saddle. This enables you to ride it around your farm.
There are different colours of horses. Vanillia, dark brown, and black. The vanilla coloured horses will have the same colour as you bandana if they're born on your farm.
An interesting pet. The pig will bring you money. You can choose this animal at the beginning.
To own a sheep you need at least 6 fields of grass in the pasture. Once you've done this you can buy a lamb at the farmer's union for 3000G. It doesn't matter if you buy a female or a male because they both produce wool. You can buy a yarn and sweater machine after you ship a certain amount of wool. Lucus will get these items in his shop for 30000G each.
If you are the female you can shear the sheep. If you are a male you must tell your partner to collect M-E-W. The size of the wool produced depends on your sheep's affection rate for you.
0-3 produces small wool
4-7 produces medium wool
8-10 produces large wool
If you have a yarn or sweater maker it will always make the same sized sweater or yarn. It doesn't matter on the wool size.
You can also breed your sheep. You need a male sheep and a female sheep that are both adults. When you talk to the sheep select the option to have a baby. A lamb takes 22 days to turn into an adult once it's born.
S. Wool: 150G
M. Wool: 200G
L. Wool: 250G
